HONEYMOON TRIP - DAY 1 & MORNING 2

Denver in 14 hours. Along the way, we had the opportunity in Iowa for a side trip down "Corporate Woods Drive" ... we chose to stay on course, mainly because "Corporate Woods Drive" conjured images of "Mall of America Nature Preserve" or "Henry David Thoreau's Redwood Logging Company"

Anyway ... moving on. Wendy's favorite moment happened while listening to a country station (seems that Nebraska has two kinds of radio stations: Country and Western). A male singer was honking out some deep and unique lyrics, like "I got a picture of you in my truck" and "I love you like red on a rose" to which I asked, "Wendy, did I just hear him sing 'I love you like bread on a roll'?!?!?!?"

9:30PM Mountain Time: Landed safely in Denver at Warwick and Lisa's home for some cornbread, conversation, beans, collard greens, martinis, and finally ... wait for it ... laptops and wireless internet in our super-cozy guest room (complete with peppermint taffy on the pillows!).

Breakfast downtown Denver. Wendy walks out full of an egg plate named "The Peasant" (while I chose the Royal Blue Plate Special). Next, it's off to scout & navigate around Denver with Warwick before happy hour! Stay tuned!

Mitch says he knows how it is Uncle Brent--people always make up his words too! He just looked at the computer screen at Aunt Wendy and asked, "Where's Elmo?"

First, ya gotta love those matching thermal mugs on the dash.

I love the road trip. Eggs at funky indie resturants. The view of the landscape through a windshield. The odd & funny names of towns, businesses, roads. I remember a billboard in Kentucky for Big Ass Fans that had a picture of a mule's posterior.

Deb & I have been stopped in the middle of the road at various times by herds of cattle, sheep, and buffalo as they flowed all around and past our car. The buffalo were the best as a big old bull stepped into the middle of the road and stopped traffic in both directions as the herd crossed the road. When the last of the herd cleared the road, the old bull slowly sauntered on his way.

May your trip be blessed with the weird, wild, and wonderful.

Doin' fine, Dog. Good to see you & Bluebyrd throwin down on the rhymes.

How's life in Woodstock. Oh yeah, nice post on Mental Contagion last month. Nice capture of the lure of the female charms. And the castigation of we smokers.

Be well.

I am still commuting. Just ending my 15th straight week. I never thought I'd say it, but I'm missing Texas. But it's because my heart resides there with my beautiful bride. I do go home every weekend. It's not nearly enough Debbie time, though.

Don't give up on the Twins just yet. Oakland has blown a 2 game play-off advantage twice in the past & the Twins are pretty good a coming from behind. I believe there's still a chance.

In one of those six degrees things, the woman who cuts my hair is Esteban Loaiza's mother-in-law. We discussed the possibility of a Twins & As match up last Saturday. She likes the Twins but obviously she's pulling for Oakland.

Kirby died of a stroke. I think it was about a year ago, maybe less. The team have all worn his number, 34, on their jerseys this year. He probably retired aboout 10-12 years ago. He was a hell of a ball player, wasn't he.

I want to say that it's really good to connect with you all again. I so enjoy this community in the ether.

Funny how life sometimes get in the way of our living, isn't it? So many things get in the way of our heart's desires. But that just seems to make those times when we break through to the good stuff that much better. You'll both get back to your writing--I know you will.
