Coyotes are Wailing

The dogs have risen from their blankets and pads and are now commenting back towards the howls of the local coyotes. (just a 12:30am update from the porch ... nothing too serious). But, we do have coyotes, and they wail like banshees ... and the dogs have to hold forth.

We have mountain lions here, they don't howl, they kinda pant outside your window before they eat your chickens. The coyotes make a ruckus too, but are very quiet when they eat your chickens.

I watched "At Close Range" Friday night and there's a scene when Christopher Walkin's character is telling his son (Christpher Penn) about how when the female coyotes are in heat they lure the area dogs out into the wilds where the pack then attacks & kills the dogs. Then he shoots his son in the face & kills him.

The point of my grisly tale is that I hope you keep your puppies close to home when the coyotes are nearby.

Deep down, our doggies have respect (i.e. fear) for the coyotes, meaning that they stay close to home and bark at them from a distance (which probably helps keep them away from our house). Wendy (the scout, of course) could hold forth on the topic of coyotes better than me, though ....

I almost watched that movie Friday night on IFC. It's disturbing. I saw it years ago and forgot most of the details ... but loved Christopher Walken's hair-do!!!
