I killed nothing nor did I disturb any nests. The pile was broken down and cleaned up within 30 minutes of this photo being taken. (That is our patio where it lies, after all.)
The limbs had to come down because they were hanginging too low over our wood shingled roof where the lack of sunlight & air circulation has been causing said wood shingles to rot. We are now awaiting the estimate for repair of wood shingle roof.
As an observation, I would not recommend wood shingled roofs in shady, tree rich environments. Also not a good idea in dry climates (such as Texas) nor hail storm-prone areas (also such as Texas). Insurance company also not big on the idea of wood shingled roofs and make their feelings known through high premiums and even higher deductibles.

Now it really makes no sense --- gotta get a time-machine, I guess --- maybe the red chair is actually a time-machine. I'll read the manual.
