Three B's : Busy, Busy, Busy

Updatey: We've been experiencing busy. B and I have both been working a lot which is awesome since August party needs are piling up with scary pricetags. Kitty starred brilliantly in Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat (as B mentioned) which spanned a two-week run. It was packed every night. Art in the community rocks! Everyone wins! Write your congress men & women and senators and tell them to keep the NEA funded. OK? Do it! It's on the chopping block as we speak.

Dad showed up Thursday last.... and Hannah on Saturday night just in time for curtain. We had an afterparty that night and much of the cast showed up. We dragged around on Sunday until the matinee show and after that attended Mitchell Sigmeth Hoffman's very first birthday. Among other things, he got a fantastically plasticky John Deere 4-wheeler. It was all he wanted to do for the rest of the day. We'll have fotos soon. Dad doesn't leave until this Thursday so I've had a lot of quality time with him but sadly, Hannah had to leave Monday at noon and I'd left for work at 7:15AM. It was a weepy moment. I missed her even before she left. I think I'll find my car wending its way to Madison in the very near future to see the girl and check out her summer sublet.

Other than all this.... life is good. I'm more in love w/ B than I was yesterday, or even an hour ago which makes me most certain that the wedding is ON.

Ok, here's some commentary.

It's good to be busy. And I know how those visits with the children are too brief. We haven't seen our daughter since Thanksgiving (3 days), nor have we seen our son since Christmas. It's never often enough or long enough. We like the empty nest but we miss them so much. It just plain hurts sometimes.

I agree, Scout, that high school/community theater can be wonderful. Our daughter used to be involved.

O Lonestar.... it's seems like a lonely night for a blogger. Thanks for showing up here and resonating with the kid thing and the theater thing.

We'll try to get more exciting posts soon. We're just sorta tired.... as you can tell. But these lulls are necessary for the health of all involved, including the blog itself... a little down time. Nice.

Catch your breath, Scout--we'll survive. It's just such a fun place to meet and chat and play. A happy back porch in the ephemeral world of 0s and 1s.

Later.

Ah, yes, I remember those days well. Two hours every evening--and weekends, too--running to hockey practice or games, from August through March or April. Band/Choir concerts, school plays, teacher conferences, swimming lessons, music lessons, church activities, baseball practices and games, sleep-overs, and on and on. More miles on the car playing chaufer than driving to work. I was a grand time, but it's why I say we now enjoy our empty nest.

The hard part now is that we never get any face time because they are so far away. 11-12 hours drive to see our daughter, 24 hours or better for the boy. Flying works, but it's expensive.

Yeah, I remember the heartbreak of not getting the hug or kiss any more--it's tough.

The teen years offer both the best and worst. It's great to see your kids maturing and coming into their own, but the pushing back to establish their independence can be rough.

But. It's. All. Good.

Oh, I forgot to mention dance rehearsals and recitals.

For about 5 minutes after the mayhem ends, you'll wonder what you'll do with all your newly aquired free time. Then it just fills up with new things.
