Sugar Q's Shave and Buzzy's Revolt

Here's the email I got from Buzzy.....

"I am sad to report the loss of one of my furry pets...Guy's handlebar mustache. I am staging a small revolt(see pic below) but I am not sure how long I can hold out."

Let's send support to Buzzy. There's still time to get that stash back on Sugar Q's upper lip before August 13th!

Buzzy looks great with the facial hair--so did Super Dog. So, Dog, do you really want your beautiful wife running around like this? Be a man--grow it out.

FYI, I've had some form of facial hair for 26 years now. I first grew it out because Mrs. Lone Star asked me to--she likes it--and I wanted to please her.

I've never really liked just a mustache, either. I've gone with a goatee the last several years. Sometimes, over the winter, I grow it all out. But I always keep it fairly short. Like you, SQSD, I don't like it when it curls into my mouth. A man's got to do what a man's got to do, so do what makes you happy, Dude.

i could never have imagined all the problems a stash could cause .... thanks for the education. it was a great look while it lasted. but, change is inevitable. (sigh)

maybe Buzzy is onto something where the plasticstash is concerned. convenient "light switch" styling.... on/off, on/off, even right there over dinner .... especially if you are playing two sides to an argument....

(where am i going with this drivel ....??? ..... late night..... crazy dreams..... another grey grey grey day on the prairie..... it's been raining and/or overcast for over two weeks..... HEEEELLLLLLPPPPPPPP)

You know, Scout, down here they actually sorta long for that kind of weather. It rarely rains enough.

I was just outside chatting with my neighbors for about 10 minutes and now I need another shower. WAY high humidity and over 90 degrees with a blazing sun.

The grass is always greener...

Hey, Scout. Here's to a great gig tonight at the Kitty Kat.

Is the Onion piece out yet? What did you think of your CP review?

my grass, beyond green, has taken on a jungle quality , which may be the only up side to the last 2+ weeks of drizzly, thunderstormed, down poured, gushing, sloshing world we've been surviving. wait.... there's one more curious up side.... miraculously, my basement has not been taking in water..... it's an act of God, i think.... which may seriously challenge the war i've been engaged in with some Xtian Xtremists who are trying to save my soul via the internet.

hmmmm......

LS, i thought the CPages proffered a crazy review for a fairly crazy recording. i dug part of it, but it seemed the whole thing hinged on/against the opening song (Garbage). check out the curious review from Chris Reimenschneider in the Strib. i live for this stuff. yoko ono? wha---tha----? the best part is that he reveals his elitist posing on his "Cans confession" and it all makes me wonder what he listens to (rumor has it, he's still romanced by Soul Asylum's currrent offerings.... so, consider the source).

Still and all, the best thing about music and art in general, is that what one person worships, another despises. That's the beauty between the margins. I am far beyond feeling bruised, unless it gets personal.... and Chris does come dangerously close.... when he intimates that we are just trying to be weird and "cool". Regardless of his take on the music, he's just wrong about that.

The Onion piece is out but I've not read it yet. You can't get it on line. When I get a copy, I'll try to remember to scan it and send it to you.

Meanwhile, The Current has added another song from the CD to their playlist and want us for an in-studio performance & interview, KQ has us on Homegrown, Radio K wants us on their Friday live show, even Cities 97 wants an in-studio. Other local rags want to do features, including Pulse. So, we're getting attention for it and that's good. I just want to sell some of these and get on to the next recording which may be done at my house this time.... an even more organic approach. Play on the porch, in the yard, living room, prairie.....we shall see.

Remember, God is on everyone's side and no one's side. And, like drunks, you can't argue with Xtian Xtremists. You're just banging on a closed--and locked--door.

Is it strange that all the attention is coming a year after the fact? Didn't I get my copy from you last spring?

You are most assuredly NOT like Yoko Ono.

well said. and of course.... their human repressed proclivities most definately find a secret (often dark) way of playing out, like the Hagar article you sent me reveals so well. funny how they can so conveniently re-write the definition of "sin" if and when they need to.

longer story.... it was recorded TWO years ago, and released one year ago without ceremony (also longer story). then Princess picked us up, so it's really a RE-release a year after being packaged & sold at shows (again, another longer boring story).

all of us are really ready to move on.... but finding the time to make it happen is difficult. Mike is in 4 bands 3 of which tour internationally, Dosh's one man band has been touring here & abroad, & he plays in a couple other bands and Jeremy is in 2-10 bands.... no one knows for sure, but some of them also tour. me? i'm starting to think i need a couple other projects to keep myself lubricated since Redstart plays so infrequently -- but everyone really digs each other and wants to keep it all going. so, we probably will.

So, B and I talk about doing a country thing and Steve Tibbetts and I may try (again) to collaborate on something.

I get tired of the hypocrisy. We live a Biblical life, blah, blah, blah. But only the parts of the Bible that are convenient to them, or that support their worldview. I don't see any women in "red" tents. I don't see them following the dietary laws. I don't see them stoning the adulterers. I don't see them living in common. I don't see anyone following the laws of the Jubilee. If the Bible is against what they fear, great. If not, ignore it. Besides, it's a book loaded with contradictions--it's impossible to uphold literally. And I don't think it was meant to be.

There's my rant for the day.

nice, LS. nice. i live for your rants. maybe you should up them to a couple a day for awhile.... and then, maybe kick it down to 4.

and speaking of rants, you might want to read some of B's educative eloquence on the CFalls Beacon editorial pages. google it and go back a few weeks in the archives. others in the community are beginning to speak out and we are that this is where everything begins.... getting the silent and oft-hopeless (these days) majority to realize that they have a voice and need to raise it up. and it all starts in one's own grass-roots community where applications can be made to one's own neighborhood.

my mini-rant for the day.

B ran a couple of his editorials past me before they were published. I'm glad that his words have prompted others to speak out.

There was a great editorial here, in the Star-Telegram, written by a Baptist concerned with the Religious Right's efforts to tear down the wall of seperation between church and state. It was truly excellent. I posted the link on the ExMac blog, but nobody commented.

So, was it the pouty blonde kid or Melissa Gilbert that sucked you in? Or perhaps it was Michael Landon as Pa. There were always some great moral lessons involved--perhaps that's what you liked?

Can I just say that I really LOVED Milissa Gilbert and Little House on the Prairie. Growing up in a crazy NYC household I loved the basic life on the plains. I don't know about mushrooms, they are pretty yummy. I guess if I was Laura I would know how to find them...

City kids often long for for the quiet, simple country life. (I know 'cause I used to love to visit my cousin's farm.) But it's a lot of hard work.

As for the TV show, I always thought it was pretty sappy. Especially the last few seasons.

I have to admit that I prefered The Waltons to Little House on the Prairie. But, they were both kinda sappy.
