They're Watching ...

I think this came from friend Jeff McCusker right here in Cannon Falls ... but, yeah ... I suppose it could have come from an alien. Either way, I'm ready for the alien probing ... or wait ... no probing, just ask me questions. Cool? Cool.

This art will auction off with all proceeds going to the foundation to support freedom fries with indentity issues. The same group that represents belgian waffles, english muffins, mexican jumping beans and the aloof RC Cola.

Nice Freudian slip on the probing, B. It's cool, Dude. Just be careful who you talk to about it. People get beat up for their willingness to be probed.

Just got back from Buggy's neighborhood. Paid for the Allis-Chalmers and looked at the torn-apart old John Deere motor (the completely destroyed piston, etc.). Had a couple beers, talked about fireworks, and also talked about falling down.

Now, I'm back on the porch. Getting a little chilly up here tonight, which is a bit of a relief. Wendy's up in the big city seeing some rock music.

Gonna sit back and have me a Jameson and listent to Rocky lick himself while I do some reading (or chatting like this).

What's going on in the Lone Star State?

Well, on the "Post-Punk Pillar" post, I noted that D was still at work. So I'm reading blogs & having a beer (a couple, actually). Doesn't look like I'll be working next week either, so I'm a little bummed. All the reserves are gone, so it's kinda put up or shut up time. I do have work on the horizon, but I was hoping to get a day or two in next week. Bills to pay, blah, blah. You guys know the drill.

The heat is oppressive. The cicadas are buzzing. I'm exhausted from spending about 8-9 hours on my knees, grouting the tile.

And you?

Work is pretty scarce around these parts right now, though I may have some bigger stuff after the wedding, which will be nice. I have so much to do around here, but I've been procrastinating; trying to keep up with politics, etc. Tomorow, I may have to complete a task or two to feel good for the weekend!

I love the word "grout"

I don't know if you've seen this blog, but it's kinda cool.

It's by a soldier on tour in Iraq. I recommend it.

I keep reading Kos & Mojo and some others. After awhile it just gets overwhelming. Most of what's going on makes me really angry, but since there's not much to do until the next election cycle, I have to let a lot of it go. I didn't vote for these clowns either go-round and I won't next time, either. Unfortunately, I've moved to a state where the Dem votes don't mean much because it's so Repug down here. It's one of the few states that still gives BushCo a positive job rating, still likes the progress in Iraq, still supports DeLay, etc, etc. What do you do? I don't need the stress.

What I try to do is buy organic, save energy, stuff like that. It's why we drive efficient cars, too. (I love that Wendy drives a TDI.) Texas has deregulated the electricity industry, supposedly to benefit consumers. The rates here are 50% higher—big benefit!—than in Minnesota (Excel anyway). But what we could do is switch to a totally "green" supplier—no fossil fuels or atomic. It's all wind, hydro, and other renewables. Costs the same, but I feel better about it.

Politics... Somehow it seems too big. I vote for people who I believe (and hope) will represent my interests and values. I have no interest in participating in party crap—all they let you do is grunt-work, manning phones or stuffing envelopes. If I thought for a minute they'd listen to what I thought, it might be different.

Dean gives me hope for the grass-roots, though. I really like what he says, his honesty. I really wish he had been the Dem candidate in '04 and not Kerry. At least he offered a real alternative. Dems have been so busy rushing to the center that they've forgotten their base. Dean knows it and he's not afraid to try to bring the party back toward the left.

Honestly, I think we need representatives from all points on the spectrum. It keeeps things in check. The problem now is that everyone in both partys are too busy covering their asses, watching how things poll. I decided years ago that the corporations are really running the show, anyways. BushCo is just codifying what's already the defacto reality.

OK, now I'm really depressed. I need some time with my love & anchor, Ms. D.
