SCOUT HEADS TO CHINATOWN

We ate at John's Grill tonight, after we witnessed and filmed the Blue Angels performing over the Bay as we drove in over the bridge slowly in a traffic jam. Those Blue Angels sure can fly some planes!!! Anyway, we ended up in Chinatown after dinner (which basically means that we walked up a 25% grade for about 5 blocks and finally made it to Chinatown. (sorry if the photo doesn't appear --- I'm trying to figure it out).

We tried to find a Chinese outfit for Mitch, my nephew, but had no luck ... so, we ambled on back towards our hotel (The Hotel Union Square). We stopped at an Irish tavern that proved to remind us of nothing unique, so we high-tailed it back to our cozy room, where we reside right now .... I think Wendy has passed on to slumber. Tomorrow, there may be some bike rental ...

Sorry ... this is boring. Tomorrow should contain more color ...

If you get to Sonoma, stop at the Shelleville Grill and see Uncle Buck. Text me if you want the phone number. Happy Trails.

I forget... Are you guys headed to Seattle? I know you're stopping in Portland to see Fat Guy.

Anyway, I suggest a visit to Experience Music Project. It's located next to the Space Needle & it literally rocks. As in musically. A fabulous Frank Gehry building housing an interactive rock n roll museum with a special section dedicated to Hendrix. Lots of coverage of the roots of rock as well. My 2 cents.

NSGLS.... thanks for the tips re: Portland, but you are off on the trajectory. Fatguy lives in Corvallis and he's driving to Florence, on the coast, to meet us at Cooley's Cottage (see latest post). Guy... you must have much to say re: this post, since you lived in Portland.... AND are a huge Hendrix fan.

Bring it, boys.

Steph... I'm gonna talk to you about DINNER tonight in Eureka, CA. Here we are in another long stripped town, feelin' pretty country, and when we go downtown, we find a place called.... uh.... BRENT! WHAT WAS THE NAME OF THAT RESTAURANT WE ATE AT TONIGHT....?.....////...../////....Hurricane Kate's.... great little spot that had Byrdie's restauranteur touches all over it.... barely muted bright & contrasting colors on the walls, pretty cool art (at least, some of it) involving horses.... cool as shitboots chefs slogging around the restaurant (it was almost closing kitchen when we arrived). But before they did, they made me a seared Ahi tuna (3 huge slices... very rare) salad w/ a killer tahini/ginger dressing on mixed baby greens. Brent had these tiny, tender oysters on the half-shell w/ a hot sauce drizzled in the shell. We were drinking the Bogel Petit Sirah (prrrfect) and pretty much.... freaking out after the gut bomb burgers we had in the redwoods for lunch. I have to say... the "pasta salad" that came with it tasted like the dressing was pure margarine.... freakin awful.

and right now... we're watching the Marx Brothers on TV in this horribly stinky motel room that is bleaker than bleak ... it's so ridiculously good -- the shower rocks ass though.... a blast from the best kind of hell. Brent has to keep going out to the parking lot to get game on the internet. i'm just lounging in bed (my bars are good)... here's a line from Groucho...."when money comes in the door, love goes out inuendo" .... or something like that. he's dressed in a graduation get up, dancing around pulling everyone's beards and, smoking a cigar, of course.
