Women in the Yard, Men on the Trail

A lovely day today. I spent the morning in the garden, thinning zinnias and pulling weeds. The Wedding Committee meeting was disbanded awhile ago, but most on board came to the yard anyway, just for fun. Attendees: Rita, Rox, Mary, Helen, Kirsten and Meghan; also, Evelyn (last child of Rita) & her pal Matt who spent most of their time on the trampoline or playing guitars. Finally, Mitchell.... Official Wedding Mascot. Corks were popped before 4:00 (as I recall... but recollection may be foggy) and chi-chi snax were served. Just for the record, Mommy of Mascot, Kirsten & Grandma Helen did not partake in the wino fest and neither did Meghan, who is already learning the meaning of restraint, 10 weeks into the prelude to Mommy debut. Congratulations to Meggie & the husband. As mentioned today, your progeny will not want for baby sitters and a 1950's foto shoot is in the offing in your vintage house .... you in smocks and skinny skirts and pointy shoes, with a full belly, alien in tact.

Meanwhile, B, Gary & Chuck were bushwacking. Equipment: chainsaws & hauling equipment. Mission: clearing debris from the trails so that 4-wheeler & horseback riders will enjoy their pleasured endeavors. B came home sweaty, dirty and zoned out. But what he really came home with was a new hat.... as you can see. I will be doing everything to co-opt that hat. In any event, I'll be sporting it at the next show: Cedar Cultural Center, June 17th. He can't deny me.... and it's adjustable!

A lovely day ended in a lovely evening even if we missed the sunset on the prairie.... phone kept ringing, email kept coming in, stresses for next week were being sorted, eliminated and compounded. It's nothing any of you don't understand. Hope your weekends were splendid.

Test, one two. Check. Check, one two.

Test? What's the question? Does B look good in a trucker hat? Does anyone, really?

I heard it was a nice day up there today.

Yeah, Mrs. Star is gently snoring on the sofa as I blog & catch the end of the news. Sleep well, sweet dreams, Corona.

See, now Scout could really sport the Honda cap. I can can already see you in it up on the stage, eyes closed, strumming chords, and singin' your heart out. Wish I could be there—too long since we've been to a Redstart show.

Glad to hear that B was playing the butch-boy role this weekend. It's a good thing to do once in a while. Chainsaws are a blast—I love 'em.

We had a good weekend, too. I laid tile for about 4-5 hours on Saturday and for another 4 on Sunday. While I tiled, D stripped off wallpaper in the kitchen dinette. Spent some time at the pool. Went to a surprise 50th birthday party for one of our neighbors Sunday evening.

I'm impressed with your wine knowledge. We certainly enjoy wine, but we don't know a lot about vintages & labels—just what we like. We try lots of things. Rarely spend over $20 for a bottle, unless it's champagne. We never hold anything and usually only have a dozen bottles on hand at any given time. Maybe some day we'll get more sophisticated, but I doubt it.

We usually keep 4-6 bottles each of Reds & Whites. Californans, Italians, Germans, Australians, Columbia Valleys, Spanish.

My sister-in-law is a big Mouton Cadet fan—it is good. Because she and her husband are both in wheelchairs, they usually host the Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter gatherings. She serves White Zin and maybe a decent Cabernet to the rest of us while she sips her Mouton. I love to bust her for it.

Such full blooming attention and attraction to ones own life. That is why we love Brent (on Brent's side of the isle). We can only assume that Wendy shares the same vibe. In fact, we can confirm it--her writing rings true. It is delightfully clear that our Brent is enthusiastically tickeling her knees as they drive those linely Minnesota roads. Hello Kirsten, how's it going? I am so looking forward to your nuptuals--for the most diverse reasons that you can imagine. For me, it is a reunion, both bittersweet and true.
