A Cake Challenge

OK. The heat is on. Karen Kopacz, one of the Cake Contest bakers for the wedding day has put Randy Kramer in a floury head lock ... I guess she thinks he won't be able to touch her prowess in the kitchen. Will Randy shrink in fear and run from the oven? Will he raise his flour sifter and spatula in defiance? Will he sue Karen for baking slander?

Stay tuned. This could be rough.....

This just in from Randy:

It's a shame, Karen, that so many butterflies have to die in your vain pursuit of the sublime pastry. I, on the other hand, have chosen to travel to Alaska for a week of deep meditation on the sacrificial nature of milled grain and the sweet surrender of sugars that some so
coldly call "frosting" or "icing". Only there will I be able to harvest enough free-range, naturally shed mother of pearl sparkle-dust to express in decoration the joy and gratitude I feel for having been given the honor of sharing my love cake with such blessed eaters.
Bring your sunglasses... and a bib, my dear.

Sweetly and humbly yours,
Randall R. Cakemaker

And this, in response, from Karen....

Dearest Randy,

I didn't think you'd go for the obvious and then, bam!, animal rights. The truth is, I actually worked with those butterflies for several weeks, choreographically speaking; they were all live models. No animals harmed in the making of this cake. At the moment of the cake cutting, they would have all burst forth from the icing in a wonderful, indigo display of beauty, love, and freedom. That was the original intent. I feel I can share this with you, my opponent, as I have since thought of something much more awe-inspiring and the butterflies have returned to their natural habitat.

You may have me on the mother-of-pearl sparkle-dust from Alaska. Sadly, I didn't think of that. On the other hand, you may consider NOT giving away your secret ingredients to your competitor.

Do you want to take this to the blog? Or are you scared?

Your most worthy opponent,
Karen

Karen's cake is a lovely artistic statement, but I knda like the portability of Randy's design.

I'll give him portability, I was going for over the top sap, so I see that I have my work cut out for me.
The oven heat is on. But where's Randy? "Working" or researching cake batter? I could be in trouble here. Or maybe he's backing down. Randy, are you backing down?!
